Quiet to unexpected nights in Zürich🇨🇭

A one day trip to Zürich - a quiet trip that turned some unexpected surprises.

A walk in the park 📸

Arriving in Zürich in the early morning, the city was quiet. I had a few ideas for things to do and set out early with my camera to check out the FIFA World Cup Museum and take a walk of the city.

It was a cool drizzly day, I could hear the soft jazz music playing in my head. I am fond of quiet things.

FIFA World Cup Museum

Zürich FIFA museum takes you through the remarkable history of the sport including the evolution of the soccer ball, cleats, and some of the greatest moments and triumphs. On the tour, you can see the FIFA world cup trophy.

Inside the theatre, they play a World Cup highlight reel that will get any sports fan charged up.

Feeding those in need

Since I had only one day, I opted to eat at the Marriott Zürich’s restaurant for breakfast. Marriott hotels always offer a fair shake at local food items in a well-done, but not a true local experience way. I was enjoying my meal when I noticed a group come in to start collecting food into monochromatic yellow boxes. I asked my Brazilian server. Boxes are given to the needy who are allowed to collect food items at throw out time.

I thought this was really way of reducing food waste and it’s an easy way to support those in need :)

Dinner, Chocolates, & Schweizerdeutsch

After the FIFA museum, I went back, reset, and headed out to get some dinner. People were leaving offices from work, but the city was quiet otherwise. I ate and found some chocolates as a gift for my friend who set me up with the Arsenal tickets.

Haifisch - 2019 World Series

After a quiet, unadventurous evening, I walked back to the hotel from dinner, BS’d with a couple locals over the Schweiz accents, and figured I was a nightcap brew away from sleep.

Then I met an artist, his publicist, and a businessman.

After a few more rounds at the hotel bar, we saddled up in search of a TV playing the 2019 World Series.

Döner Kebab

There is only one food that exists in the German speaking fast food world. It was McDonalds Zurich, or Döner Kebab. The choice was obvious, especially with my friends who were first timers to this Turkish-German delight.

Swiss Air

After getting back to the Marriott, I packed my bag and closed my eyes for 30 mins trying to get a small refreshing burst of energy, but it really only got me into the Zuri airport.

All I needed to do was make my way to the gate on time. If I got there, I could rest at the gate and sleep on the flight to Ireland.

“Paging passenger Jacobson. Passenger Jacobson…”

I woke up in the airport with no memory where I was or what I was doing.

I was early, first to the gate, and would now be the last person to board. Yes, I was “That. Guy.”

Three airline attendants were standing 10 feet away making announcement after announcement paging me, the only person in the airport besides them. Literally.

Maybe it’s illegal to touch someone in Europe, or poke them with a stick when they need it.

Landing in Ireland on less than fumes, I had to get myself from the airport to downtown Dublin, in rush hour, on a Friday, in a stick shift rental car, while driving on the wrong side of the road.
